Location:
Ruckomechi camp is situated on the western boundary of Mana Pools
National Park in Northeast Zimbabwe. It has a private concession area
around the camp.
It is the sister camp to Chikwenya and is situated in
a large grove of acacia and mahogany trees overlooking the Zambezi
River, with a superb view of the Zambian Escarpment.
The area is
renown for its regular Lion, Elephant and Leopard sightings. The combination of
great game viewing, a multitude of activities and stunning scenery,
make this camp one of the best in all Africa. |

Accommodation:
The camp holds a maximum of
20 guests in 10 thatched twin chalets. All the chalets have two three
quarter beds which can be pushed together to suit guest's preferences.
The beds have large spacious mosquito nets which hang over the beds to
the ground with ample space to move around. Fans are a prominent
feature in all bedrooms. Each chalet has a shower with hot and
cold water, flush toilet and basin en suite.
Each room also has its own dressing area
and private veranda with built in seats. |

Facilities:
The camp is lit by generator
and there is power from sunset through to 10.30 each evening. Battery
operated lighting is available after 10.30 pm.
Guests will be able to
recharge video batteries during generator hours. The bar/lounge and library are
situated on the river's edge facing the Zambian escarpment. The bar has a deck area
where one can sit and view the surroundings. Note the bar generally
closes at 10.30 and is open from 9.30 am. The open air dining room is
situated on the river's edge as a separate building. Ruckomechi is
well known for its open air bath that overlooks the Zambezi River. It
is closed on three sides. |

Conference facilities are
available and are tailored to the requirements of the organizers.
Television , video, flip chart, blackboard and overhead projector are
available at no extra charge. Conference rates are discounted and require
that the whole camp be booked for the conference. Items of curio interest
and basic toiletries , film and stationery are available from the camp
shop. The camp is in contact by HF radio with Kariba, Harare, Victoria
Falls, Hwange and Lusaka. All activities are in contact with the camp by
VHF radio. There are a minimum of four
licensed guides in the camp, at least one of whom is a specialist
walking guide. Two hostesses are also based at the camp. The camp is
equipped with comprehensive first aid facilities. All Ruckomechi Camp
guests are automatically covered by MARS ( Medical Air Rescue Service
) for life threatening or immobilizing illness/injuries, in this event
they will be evacuated to the nearest suitable medical facility.
The food in the camp is of a
very high standard and vegetarian or other dietary preferences can be
catered for provided the camp is advised. Bottled water is available.

Game Viewing / Activities:
Morning, midday, afternoon
game drives. All vehicles are open Landrovers and take a maximum of 7
passengers on two rows of bucket seats.
Walking with a specialist
guide. Afternoon canoe trips. Fishing in season. Game viewing from a
purpose built hide. Pontoon cruises during mid-morning to view game
and birds along the river's edge.
CHILDREN'S ADVENTURE CAMPS
During the December school
holidays Children's Adventure Camps are offered for 8-12 year olds.
