Savute Safari Lodge - (Chobe National Park - Botswana)

A composition of ancient Africas geological heritage and world acclaimed game viewing...

Location:

It is breathtaking to think that the Seven Hills of Savute, collectively known as the Gubatsa Hills, were formed some 980 million years ago and were shaped over the centuries by the ancient Makgadikgadi Lake that finally dried up some 30,000 years ago

Whilst the latest geological phenomena to radically change the face of Savutes landscape were the gentle tectonic movements of Northern Botswanas earth plates... This movement of the tectonic plates happened only two decades ago and hardly discernable at the time which caused the Savute Channel and its dependent Savute Marsh to parch and dry-up completely.

It is said that the channel may flow again, as it has switched on and off without explanation in the past. This legend continues to fuel the great mystery and fascination of Savute and its famous dry Savute Channel.

It is on the banks of this, The Stolen River, that you will find Savute Safari Lodge in a setting of singular beauty. The lodges signature expansive glass sliding doors and upstairs viewing decks were inspired by the striking panorama ....

Whether seen in the dry season when it can appear desert-like and barren beyond belief or after the rain on one of those crystal clear days across the vivid green of new grass, the impression is always the same. It is boundless.

Accommodations:

Accommodation is in 12 twin-bedded local timber and glass chalets with cool thatching, beautifully furnished in fresh colors and with en-suite facilities.

Every chalet has its own private viewing deck. Your stay at Savute Safari Lodge is inclusive of accommodation, all meals, teas and coffee, scheduled game viewing activities, park entrance fees, laundry service and soft drinks, beers and local wines served with meals and on activities.

Facilities:

The lodges magnificent lounge and cocktail bar with a large fireplace and upstairs viewing deck overlooks the Savute Channel, as does the stylish dining room which caters for silver service dinners by candelabra. A plunge pool with sundecks provides cool relief during the hot midday hours.

Game Viewing / Activities:

The game viewing offered by Savute is an experience not to be missed, especially if you are visiting in the summer months, after Novembers first rains when thousands of animals are drawn to the area. Savutes highlights are its concentrations of lion and hyena, as well as its leopard, cheetah, black-backed jackal and the many lone elephant bulls, usually seen frequenting their favorite watering holes!

The summer zebra migrations, an awe-inspiring spectacle of up to 25,000 animals trooping through Savute in search of the rain-ripe grasslands to the south, is determined by the rains but usually occurs between November - December and again between February - April when the zebras migrate back north to the Linyanti.

In short - Tracking Savutes game on morning and afternoon game drives by open 4x4 safari vehicle, excellent birding, exploring the sweeping grasslands of the dry Savute Marsh, visits to the Gubatsa Hills to view the ancient San rock paintings.
